Time is running out to take advantage of the Homebuyer's Tax Credits. You must be in contract no later than April 30, 1010 and close before July 1, 2010 to be eligible for the credits.
Qualified first time home buyers are eligible for a tax credit of up to $8000. You are considered a first time home buyer if neither you nor your spouse has owned a principal residence in the U.S. within the last three years. Most other buyers are eligibe for up to $6500 if they have lived in their current residence for five consecutive years of the last eight years.
You can claim the credit when you file your 2009 or 2010 tax return or you may file an amended return after you purchase your home. If you co-sign a mortgage to help a non-dependent child his or hers first home, your eligibility does not effect your child's ability to qualify for the tax credit.
This is money that never has to be repaid provided that you live in the home as your primary residence for a minimum of three years. So don't delay any longer. Give me a call and I can help you decide whether now is a good time for you to buy. And if the time is right it would be a privilege to help you find your dream home.
